If you’re remodeling or adding on to your home, you may find that you need some windows. Depending on the age of your home and its windows, that may present a bit of a dilemma. Do you choose the same (or close) to the windows you have now or something different that make more sense in the space? As an Indianapolis window company, we know there is no one answer to this dilemma. In fact, we’ve helped homeowners and their remodeling companies work through this many times. Usually it comes down to one of the three scenarios we’ve laid out in today’s blog.
Option 1 – Choose Similar Windows
This option is best for newer homes or homes with newer windows. Notice that we say similar windows. That’s because the same windows aren’t always available or aren’t always the best quality. In this scenario, if you have white vinyl single hung windows, you will choose white vinyl single (or double) hung windows. They may be from a different manufacturer but your Indianapolis window company will do what they can to match the look from the grid pattern to the hardware.
Option 2 – Take the Opportunity to Begin the Window Upgrade Process
If you know that replacement windows are on your list of home improvements in the near future, you should consider this option. In this scenario, you’ll want to consider replacing all the windows that are in the same area of the home. Some examples include:
- Master bathroom update – replace all the windows in the bedroom and bathroom.
- Kitchen renovation – replace the kitchen windows as well as the windows in the connecting rooms.
- Upgrade or addition on the front of the home – replace all the windows on the front of the home at this time.
The goal is to not only make the room or area of the home look cohesive, but also to provide the same level of energy efficiency.
Option 3 – Replace All the Windows
As an Indianapolis window company, this is our favorite option for several unselfish reasons. First, your costs overall will be lower. If you’re planning on replacing all the windows in the near future, this is the most cost-efficient way to do it. Second, if you’re hoping to improve your home’s energy efficiency, you’ll see the most improvement when you replace all the windows versus just a few. Finally, it’s less disruptive to your home and family when you only have your Indianapolis window company at your home once to replace all the windows rather than a few at a time.
