This is a question we are often asked. And, unless you’re replacing a few windows due to storm damage, an accident, or a home renovation, you probably should try to replace all your windows at once. As one of Indianapolis’s oldest window companies, we understand that it’s not always in the budget for every homeowner to replace all their windows at once time. However, we want you to understand a few things if you choose to replace your windows in phases.
When You Replace All Your Windows at One Time They Are Cheaper Per Window
There are a few reasons the cost per window comes out to be less when you replace all your windows. First, is the labor and installation. When we have to come to your home multiple times, there are simply more hours factored into a job. When we come one time and replace all your windows, it’s less time which means the install cost is less. Second, the manufacturer has to build and ship the windows. With quantity comes discounts so we pass those savings onto our customers. Finally, materials and shipping have continued to go up. So, the exact same window next year or a few years down the road could cost more.
Your Window Color or Style May Not Always Be Available
Generally, window companies offer the same colors over the years. However, as styles and demand for certain colors or options change, a manufacturer may discontinue the option in the future. Replacing only a few windows at a time means risk of your exact window being discontinued. If you decide to replace your windows in phases, try to replace all your front windows at once and then continue with the windows that aren’t seen from the street.
Energy & Money Savings
Most homeowners replace their windows because they aren’t energy efficient. If your reasons for new windows is because your current windows let in the hot or cold air, replacing a few at a time won’t solve that problem very well. When you replace all your windows with double pane windows, you could see savings in excess of $400 a year on your heating and cooling costs. Plus, you get the added bonus of less wear and tear on your HVAC unit since it doesn’t need to run as frequently with better insulated windows.
