Not All Vinyl Windows Are the Same
We’re using vinyl windows in this scenario because they are the most common type of replacement window we install. However, if you’re looking at clad or another material, they differ, sometimes in different ways than vinyl windows do.
When you call multiple window companies, chances are they’re all going to promote or recommend different brands. This is either because they are a manufacturer representative of one brand or because they have certain brands they’re comfortable installing. Be sure to ask questions about the brands they are recommending. Some questions you should ask include:
- Are the windows made with virgin recycled or vinyl?
- How are the corners joined – welded or mechanically connected?
- Is there reinforcement in the frame?
- Are the frames multi-chambered?
- What warranty comes with the windows?
Choose windows that are made with welded frames and sashes from virgin vinyl. You also should want a multi-chamber frame. Depending on the size of the window, you may need a reinforced frame. Finally, don’t settle for anything less than a lifetime limited warranty.
Custom Windows Are Worth the Price
You can walk into a big box store and buy a standard size window and it will likely fit into most of your window openings. However, when you contact a local replacement window company they will measure each opening and the window will fit more precisely. Not only will the window fit better into the opening, but the window itself is a better window. Custom windows are made with higher quality materials and the construction is better. And, because your local replacement window company installs the window, you have someone to turn to if there are installation issues or warranty issues in the future.
Have an Idea of What Is Important to You

This is a number between 0 and 1. The higher the number, the more light passes through the windows. Today’s windows have many features and understanding your options will help you be happy with your new windows long-term.
